The 6th annual OVO fest

ovo-fest-2015-01

Claiming it was one of the biggest moments of his career, Drake turned last night's OVO Fest into a memorable one, to say the least: announcing Kanye West as one of his idols, dropping lines on Meek Mill, sharing the stage with Travis Scott (who stated he'd broken out of jail to make it there on time) and music connoisseur Pharrell. All in one night - perhaps what most artists try to squeeze into a year.

We can't wait to see what's up next in the career of this Toronto native sensation. And, with his newest recruitment, Roy Wood$, blasting on a Tuesday afternoon, all we can say is: keep it coming.

DJ Enuff Birthday Bash

Last night was a great night for DJ Enuff and his fun-filled Birthday Party in the lower east side. To kick it off The Legend Funkmaster Flex was the host, and despite his controversy with JayZ, he was having a great night. Guest appearances during the night were artists such as Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Corey Guns, and many more.

One Dream

It seems we always claim we have a long way to go, and yet we also say we've come such a long way. We wonder what this man would have said at the age of 86 this year if he hadn’t been assassinated in Memphis in 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. People all over the world come together on this day to commemorate a man of so many wise words, a man full of inspiration, a man who spoke up about the truth and belief that many of us share to this very day...and perhaps gave us all a dream with his infamous words.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

How has racial bias impacted Your life? We open up the floor for sharing.

Champagne at its finest

Kim_cover_web_2 Like a virus, the image has been spreading across the Internat and social media throughout the past weeks - Kim Kardashian West's cover spread with Paper Magazine's latest issue: Break the Internet. If you haven't already read the article, or seen the images, you are in for a shock. Photographer, Jean-Paul Goude, known for this iconic champagne shot, teamed up with Kim to recreate and modernise the 1976 photograph of model Carolina Burmont.

591d93a6959ee7a6a4e2cc942827d9d5

Although the images for this spread are highly discussed, one cannot argue the success and "photoshop" beauty of Kim Kardashian. If you look past the images and read between them, one might argue that the words themselves speak the truth about Kim Kardashian West -

A feminist-entrepreneur-pop-culture-icon or a late-stage symptom of our society's myriad ills: narcissism, opportunism, unbridled ambition, unchecked capitalism. But behind all the hoopla, there is an actual woman -- a physical body where the forces of fame and wealth converge.

Or is it so that those words about Kim don't matter when they are paired with photos like these? What do you think about Kim Kardashian's oiled and naked backside for in this controversial spread? What is it saying about our pop culture and women today - is it saying anything at all?

Alex Moccia

10246042_626389330774313_1444064029_a We are excited to be introducing a new artist to be on the look out for, Alex Moccia. With a look very reminiscent of Iggy Azalea, but a completely different voice, Alex has the SRP team intrigued for more. Her latest work can be found on YouTube - a remixed and reworked version of Purity Ring's song, "Lofticries". Alex explains that "the lyrics and sound really inspired me to make a full length creative video about overcoming fear and freeing yourself from abuse of any sort". Her deep and melodic tone is unlike most of what we've heard - this small-town singer/songwriter is something to watch out for!

All for one and one for all

A while back we started introducing new artists every week - ones that we collaborate with or are inspired by. Last week was all about that soft singer/songwriter sound, this week we're bringing back the hardcore and raw, more specifically - a mixture of Logic, A Tribe Called Quest and Yelawolf. Yes, a flow that you will rock your boat. A few weeks ago StreetRacer Productions met Joshua Andrew Boyer, more commonly known as DOSENATION, a South Jersey rapper striving for something bigger than just the fame and success of his own words. From 2007 to today the solid work has paid off and you will find Joshua across the web, on many different platforms - growing his nation. We've had the pleasure of learning a bit more about the artist and his vision, keep reading and you'll see why this rapper has so much more to give!

What is your earliest memory of music, and how has it impacted you?

My earliest memory of music is watching my Uncle Steve make beats in his apartment. I was so fascinated with how everything worked that I became eager to learn the language of music at any cost. This Art had me at Hello.

Who are some of your greatest influencers, and who do you hope to one day influence?

My greatest influences are A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and B.I.G. I hope one day to influence our youth into doing the right thing and spreading a message through music. Drop beats not bombs.

What do you think sets it apart from all the other great rappers/artists out there?

What sets me apart from the rest of the artist are that I never spit the same flow. I have the ability to switch it up in a moments notice and not think twice about it. I've always seen it like this "Create your own lane, competition can't compete with originality"! I have the ability to connect with people by the masses. Being a artist your fans need to be your number one priority, without them you are NOTHING.

What can we expect to hear and see from DOSENATION in the near future?

This year will be filled with a lot of Shows (expect a great time with a lot of excitement, energy and good vibes), my clothing, contest held by me, meet-and-greets and a possible tour (as of right now my locations are NJ|PA|NY). I am very excited for what the future holds.

What are three things you cannot live without?

There are only 3 things in this life I cannot live without and that is my family, music and God. I find faith in all of them, become part of something bigger than this life, follow the movement and become part of the nation #DOSENATION.

Louder Than Words

In light of the upcoming 'Born to Create' campaign, we would like to share with you the very talented photographer that StreetRacer Productions has as of recently been working with - Maggie Wilson. Not only does her work capture the many essences of life, but they also inspire us to explore several corners of our own creativity, and to reach just a little further to what it is we desire. This recent feature on A Plus is a great depiction of what Maggie's photography represents. Take a look here! 0ea14c30-cc81-469b-b32e-c40ca78e1ddf_medium

Sitting at a small café on the Upper East side, we are excited to share with you some of the events from this weekend. Friday night our SRP producer went to an underground event on the Lower East side with the great Boogie V. A spontaneous night with fireworks, great people and great music..

Yesterday was spent in the one and only Williamsburg, Brooklyn. If you haven't already visited "the burg", and you are in the New York City area, I strongly suggest that you do. The Smorgasburg, poppin every Saturday from noon-6pm by the East River, followed by Gorbals Roof top bar, was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

The Science of Happiness

Happiness..such a common thing, but rare? So many people walk, heads down, sucked into the rhythm of monotony and the beat of every day life. When do we stop and question, what makes me happy? For some the answer might be straight forward and simple, for others it's a maze... Is it the work you are doing, the people you spend your life with, or the way you carry yourself amongst your peers that makes you happy? Or is it a combination of all of the above? And perhaps the physical road to your answer isn't as short as the theoretical one. Someone once told me that it's when you find the crossroad between what you love and what you are good at that will make you golden..that will bring you your purpose in life. So many of us work our entire lives, never making it to this crossroad. The StreetRacer Team fights every day for what they they believe in, their happiness - the power and beauty of great music, the way it impacts people, and brings life to our souls. If you are reading, share your happiness with us.

Liberation

Independence - what does it mean to you? This weekend we have celebrated the independence of the United States with fireworks, parties and happy people. It made me think of the importance and purpose of what it means to be independent, but not so much the independence of a nation, but the independence of the individual. I remember growing up thinking that being able to have the freedom to venture out as I please, buy my own food and clothes, or even living on my own would suffice in filling the once empty glass or what it means to be independent...but what about a less tangible definition? Independence as in strong-minded, self-sufficient, and in control. Perhaps these are things we fail to celebrate or take pride in. What does independence, your independence mean to you?

Check out how we celebrated the great 4th of July this weekend!
