Feelin it

3326645928

Reminiscent of a Swedish Nicki Minaj, Joy M'Batha is blowing away the Scandinavian rap-arena. About two months ago she came out with her latest release "Gladjeflickan", and has also recently been featured in many mainstream Swedish publications. But what's the buzz really about? Is it her funky choice in style, her darker past (very apparent in her lyrics) or could it be her flow - raw, real and rough? We can't wait to hear more from this new Swedish rap diva.

Champagne at its finest

Kim_cover_web_2 Like a virus, the image has been spreading across the Internat and social media throughout the past weeks - Kim Kardashian West's cover spread with Paper Magazine's latest issue: Break the Internet. If you haven't already read the article, or seen the images, you are in for a shock. Photographer, Jean-Paul Goude, known for this iconic champagne shot, teamed up with Kim to recreate and modernise the 1976 photograph of model Carolina Burmont.

591d93a6959ee7a6a4e2cc942827d9d5

Although the images for this spread are highly discussed, one cannot argue the success and "photoshop" beauty of Kim Kardashian. If you look past the images and read between them, one might argue that the words themselves speak the truth about Kim Kardashian West -

A feminist-entrepreneur-pop-culture-icon or a late-stage symptom of our society's myriad ills: narcissism, opportunism, unbridled ambition, unchecked capitalism. But behind all the hoopla, there is an actual woman -- a physical body where the forces of fame and wealth converge.

Or is it so that those words about Kim don't matter when they are paired with photos like these? What do you think about Kim Kardashian's oiled and naked backside for in this controversial spread? What is it saying about our pop culture and women today - is it saying anything at all?

Alex Moccia

10246042_626389330774313_1444064029_a We are excited to be introducing a new artist to be on the look out for, Alex Moccia. With a look very reminiscent of Iggy Azalea, but a completely different voice, Alex has the SRP team intrigued for more. Her latest work can be found on YouTube - a remixed and reworked version of Purity Ring's song, "Lofticries". Alex explains that "the lyrics and sound really inspired me to make a full length creative video about overcoming fear and freeing yourself from abuse of any sort". Her deep and melodic tone is unlike most of what we've heard - this small-town singer/songwriter is something to watch out for!

The Journey

the journey Our StreetRacer producers have evolved and their skills improved significantly since you last heard their beats on this blog. So let's take a listen to what's new! Today I want to share with you one of my recent favorites, it's titled The Journey, and makes me feel like I'm walking along a desolate road in the middle of a beautiful landscape. The road ahead has many diverging paths, yet I'm not sure which one to take. This beat reminds us that it's all about that journey, the journey that is long and hard, but nonetheless an adventure. Savour it. What is your journey?

Summer Days Mixed with the Purple Haze

There is this amazing thing that happens when talent and creativity marries knowledge. An artist by the name of Tijon has recently recorded to a new fresh StreetRacer beat, in which he acknowledges the struggles of life, expressing himself through quick and fierce rhymes. The lyrics touch upon racism, alcoholism, success, money, death, poverty, you name it.. The intention seems to have been to write about the happy times, or times "bright like a summer day" as Tijon puts it, but when the pen touched the paper something else happened.. What happened? Take a listen and share your interpretation with us!

Mr. Marty Marr

Have you ever felt like no matter what you do, something is missing? The puzzle is just never quite complete... Well, I am happy to tell you that StreetRacer Productions has found a missing puzzle piece, one that goes by the name of Marty Marr. For those of you who remember, Mr. Marty has already made a small dent with StreetRacers about a month ago with the track "Do It". Today, he is an official StreetRacer - a promising music producer and engineer, with a unique story. I couldn't be more excited to share it with you!

When and how did you start engineering/producing music?

-  I got into recording music when I was 11. I'm 20 now, so that makes for about 9 years of experience. But my dad got me into it. He needed someone to record his commercials for radio and had me learn. At the same time, I was getting into music and so I started recording tracks whenever the studio wasn't in use.

What have you been doing prior to becoming a StreetRacer?

-  I just recently graduated from IAR in New York, I was interning at Kaleidoscope Sound for a minute, doing live sound and recording with other artists in the South Jersey area.

Who has influenced you musically?

-  Definitely Kanye West. I see a lot of innovation from him and always try to do the same when I'm producing. Also, MGMT is something I listen to when I need to explore boundaries.

What makes you want to become a StreetRacer?

-  The fast life. Haha, StreetRacer Production is so focused and organized. Everyone has a part to play. Everyone builds off of the others' success. I figured out that I should be around people that have the same goals as myself.

How did you get your name, "Marty Marr"? - it's really cool and original!

-  Thanks! It really just came as a nickname. My real name is Martin and for some reason people started calling me Marty. I wish I had a cooler story for this aha!

Could you tell me a little bit about your favorite music memory?

-  I think my favorite music memory was the first day I interned at Kaleidoscope Sound. I didn't sleep the night before. I was anxious and I didn't want to oversleep. I spent the whole day trying to pick up on the routine of cleaning and making coffee (and trying not to fall asleep). But by the end of the day, the chief engineer asked me to come into the control room. When I heard the music, it reminded me why I was there in the first place. I love music !
